Civic engagement is all in the family

Emma Howard at Community Planning MeetingJon and I received this postcard in the mail last week. Now why would Rhode Islanders want to know about public meetings in sunny southern California, you might ask? Because the young woman in the postcard is our daughter Emma.

Emma joined the staff last fall of the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning as an assistant planner after completing her masters in community planning and development at Clark University. Here she is, carrying on the family tradition of making our communities better by promoting meaningful public engagement in policy-making.

It’s a Friday, I’m a mom, I’m allowed to brag a little, right? Hugs to our talented daughter (did I mention that she’s an artist, poet, great cook and all around wonderful person?) And she got to experience her first (and I hope last) earthquake recently.
